Mammen Axe Head, Re-enactment Axe, Blunt Axe

Based on the Mammen Axe find this authentic style Viking/Anglo Saxon axe is made blunt especially for re-enactment.

This is for a plain axe head only, if you want one with a handle please DM me. I usually do a 36" ash Handle with head for £70 plus postage.

Mammen Axe Details:
High strength 5160 carbon steel head giving durability.
Blunt 3mm rounded edge
6" x 2.8" - to comply with Viking Society Rules
18mm Rounded Edges (5p)
200g - light weight

History :
One of the most magnificent finds from the Viking Age is one of the axes from the grave at Mammen. The Mammen carving style was named after this particular find. The style arose in the 900s and it survived until around 1000. The motifs on the axe can be interpreted as both Christian and pagan.

Care instructions:
•Carbon steel will rust so please use oil after use. I recommend Mineral Oil as it can be used on the handle and leather sheath too, veg oil can also be used.
• If stored in leather sheath, oil and then wrap in plastic, clingfilm works great. This is to prevent rusting.
