Viking Sea Chest — Mastermyr Replica, Handmade in Hardwood

This is the chest that survived a Viking Age bog for over a thousand years. The Mastermyr chest — found on the island of Gotland, Sweden — is the largest Viking Age tool find in Europe, and this is a faithful full-size replica, hand-built in my South Wales workshop.

It's not just a box. Vikings used these chests as luggage, rowing benches, and storage on longships crossing the North Sea. Every joint, every cut is made for strength and authenticity. No stencils, no printouts — all hand-drawn and hand-carved.

• Plain Pine — £145 — Rabbet-carved lid, no hinges. Clean and functional.
• Plain Hardwood (Ash) — £190 — Metal hinges and clasp. Mastermyr lock can be added.
• HW Carved 2 Sides — £280 — Any design you want, hand-carved. Includes metal hinges and hasp.
• Oak Mastermyr — £280 — Oak with metal hinges and the Mastermyr No.1 replica lock. As close to the original find as possible.

The Story Behind It

The Mästermyr chest was discovered in a bog on Gotland, Sweden — still packed with the tools of a Viking Age craftsman who never came back for it.
