The pieces: Plain turned wood — 2 x 1.5cm each, with a taller king piece to distinguish him from the rest.

The board: A cross-section slice of solid hardwood — 40 x 32 x 2cm. Each one slightly different, with its own grain and character.

About Hnefatafl

Tafl games (pronounced tavl) were played across Scandinavia, Britain, and Ireland throughout the Viking Age. Two uneven armies — one defending a king at the centre, one attacking from the edges. The original rules are lost, but reconstructed versions are genuinely brilliant to play.
