The Kalahari Bush Axe — the essential piece of EDC, bushcraft or camping gear you never knew you needed. A true multi-tool with a design dating back 1.8 million years.

Unlike conventional axes and hawks, the Kalahari has no traditional eye. It is designed to be fitted into the root burl of a hardwood, making it small, lightweight and incredibly versatile. In seconds it converts from an axe to a hoe, scraper, adze or small ulu-style cutter — great for skinning, fleshing a hide, use as a kitchen knife, herb cutter, bark removal, making cordage and chopping.

A little history: This axe design goes back 1.8 million years in the form of the Acheulian Hand-Axe. The design has barely changed through the Stone Age, Bronze Age or Iron Age and is still used today by Kalahari tribes.

Care Instructions:

  • Carbon steel will rust — oil after use. Mineral oil is recommended as it works on the leather sheath too
  • If stored in the leather sheath, oil then wrap in plastic (clingfilm works great) to prevent rusting
