Viking Drinking Horn — Jörmungandr, The World Serpent

In Norse mythology, Jörmungandr — also known as the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent — is a colossal sea serpent so vast he encircles the entire earth and bites his own tail. Son of Loki, he was cast into the ocean by Odin upon discovery, where he grew until he could hold the world in his coils. At Ragnarök, he and Thor are destined to meet in their final battle.

A fitting design for a drinking horn.

Horns in History

Drinking horns were used throughout Europe — by Vikings, Greeks, Romans, Germanic tribes, and Saxons — up to around the 12th century, when pottery became more widespread. Raising a horn is raising a piece of living history.

Care Instructions

  • Rinse with warm, soapy water after each use
  • Towel or air dry completely before storing
  • Apply a food-grade oil (mineral oil recommended) periodically
  • Stick to cold drinks only
  • Do not use a dishwasher or hot water

As a natural product, no two horns are identical. Full care instructions included with your order.
