From the 9th century onward, Norse warriors travelled the river routes of Eastern Europe all the way to Constantinople — the greatest city in the medieval world. There they served as the Varangian Guard, elite soldiers of the Byzantine Emperor, and brought back with them the art, wealth, and craftsmanship of Byzantium. The Byzantine chain weave — intricate, heavy, and unmistakable — was among the finest expressions of that world.

This chain is made in that tradition. Solid sterling silver, hallmarked, with a 5mm Byzantine link and a decorated barrel S-clasp. Shorter and more refined than a statement piece — this sits at the collar and wears every day.

This is the chain I wear myself — during Viking reenactment as a Varangian Guard, and on nights out when only something substantial will do.
