I bought several sets of the hinges and locks for some Norse style chests I was making. All I can say is this craftsman is excellent, the hinges work really well and are in keeping with my project. The lock and key is to the same superb standard, work well and really finish a sea chest off perfectly. I'm very happy with my purchases, fast delivery and well packaged. Excellent value for money considering the work that must go into these items.

Viking Sea Chest — Small, Hand-Carved Hardwood
Couldn't load pickup availability
A tabletop Viking sea chest, hand-carved from solid ash in South Wales. Each one is made by hand, so no two are identical — the grain, the colour, and the character of the wood vary from piece to piece. I'll reach out after your order to make sure you get exactly what you're after.
These have been used as display pieces, storage for herbs and medicines, dice boxes, and as Viking ash urns. The plain hardwood version is beautiful on its own; the carved versions are something else entirely.

About Sea Chests
What sets a sea chest apart from a simple wooden box is the construction. Each side uses different cuts to add strength — necessary because these were used as luggage, rowing benches, and general-purpose furniture on Viking longships crossing the North Sea. Key finds include the Øseberg ship burial and the Mastermyr Tool Box. Authentic to the Viking Age and suitable for Anglo-Saxon and Norse reenactment.
Perfect For
- Home display and decoration
- Storage for herbs, medicines, dice, or valuables
- Viking and Anglo-Saxon reenactment
- Man caves, she sheds, and gaming rooms
- A genuinely unique gift
